A New Mindset to Support the Therapeutic Relationship

Anita Heyman, MSN, RN, NEABC is employed by Mary Free Bed as the Rehabilitation Program Director at Borgess Medical Center.  Anita has been leader in RCCSWMI since 2003.

Rosalind Lee-El,
MS, RN
is a clinical educator at Borgess Medical Center.  Ros has extensive experience in cardiac and critical care nursing as well as RCC.

This program will explore new guiding principles and practical methodologies presented in See Me as a Person: Creating Therapeutic Relationships with Patients and their Families (Koloroutis & Trout, 2012). It is suggested that caregivers adopt a way of thinking that supports their ability to see patients as human beings who desire and deserve human connection –people who, in their vulnerable state, hunger to be seen as people perhaps as much as they hunger for a cure. Presenters will discuss and role play Koloroutis’ principles of wondering, following, holding and presence through attunement.

Nursing CE available for this program.

An Essential Skill for Healthcare Transformation

Bonnie Wesorick, RN, MSN, DPNAP, FAAN Founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Elsevier Clinical Practice Model Resource Center and the Founder of the CPM International Consortium. For over three decades Bonnie has partnered with thousands of nurses and interdisciplinary practitioners to create the best places to give and receive care.

Objectives:

  1. Delineate the basic principles of Polarity Thinking
